KARMA--The
Reader's Digest Explanation
July 20, 2010
So
many people ask me, “So why do I have to go through all this pain and suffering? Is God or Soul just
playing some kind of cruel joke on me?”
So, I made a study of this, asking Soul what the heck is going on here! These are
the answers that I was given. And they bear out every time I do a Soul-level healing with folks.
THE READER’S DIGEST EXPLANATION
OF KARMA
As you know, simply
put the Law of Karma says that whatever you do will come back to you. So, if we do something to or for
someone, we will be the recipients that exact same situation at a future time.
Here is a description that the saint, Bhai Sahib Randir Singh gave of his karma: In
a previous lifetime, as a boy he came across a man who was extremely emaciated, his body was rigid, and he appeared to be
unconscious. Randir Singh desperately wanted to revive this fellow, so in his fervor he broke the fellow’s
tooth, put a tube down his throat and poured nourishment into his body.
In fact, it turned out that the comatose fellow was actually using his yogic powers to get to a state
in which he would be able to steal Randhir Singh’s father’s wealth. Needless to say, that guy
was less than appreciative when he was revived!
In this consequent lifetime, that thief with the yogic powers came back as the most despicable jailer of Bhai Randhir
Singh who was an extremely righteous Sikh and political prisoner in the early resistance against corrupt British rule over
India. So, in this life, because Randhir Singh would not eat anything that did not conform to his dietary
laws, the jailer actually had Randhir Singh’s tooth broken so that his men could insert a tube down Randhir Singh’s
throat and pour meat broth into his stomach.*
Apparently there are many threads of karma, in addition to the obvious one explained here that are woven into this
incident, which gives it extremely unique complexities. But that is how the “fabric of life”
is created.
“NO GOOD,
NO BAD. THINKING MAKES IT SO!” Yogi Bhajan
Now, can you believe that there is no such thing as “good
karma” or “bad karma”? That is just the mind, or our “everyday self”—which
is what I call our ego, the habits of our shortsighted mind, our subconscious, the dictates of our culture, and so on, making
a judgment on the situations that arise in our lives. We base our judgments on whether we like the situations
that appear or we hate them.
Needless
to say, this matching up and interweaving of karmas in a life time is such an extremely complex situation! In
fact, it is our own beloved Souls, our God Selves who pull together which karmas we will experience! Oh,
yes! Such things as where we will be born, who our parents are, what things “happen” to us,
etc.
To be very simple about
it all, it seems that before we come into a life, Soul sort of spreads all of our karmas out before It like playing cards—no
matter whether we would call those karmas good, bad or indifferent. Then it pulls specific ones from that
pile, sort of like consciously choosing your card hand before the game starts, and then creates a time order to them.
Then our Soul comes into our body and everyday self to actually play that card hand, which is all the karmic situations
It has chosen for that lifetime!
The question is, does our everyday self take charge to play that hand in such a way that it just creates
more karmas for us? Or do we let Soul whisper all the right moves to everyday self to play that hand with
such incredible grace and dexterity that we move ourselves closer and closer to actual Conscious Union with our own Soul,
our God Self? That is the process of the spiritual path.
So what about the crumminess in our lives? How do those experiences fit into this
whole operation?
Well, it appears
that at one time—in some lifetime, we were the “perp,” or the giver of crumminess. Then
in that same life or in consequent ones we become the receiver of that same, exact crumminess. This is
usually called being the “victim.” And this is where we often get stuck believing that some
God outside of us is being vengeful just for us. “Why me?” we yell!
But here’s the real deal. We, as our
Soul set up our whole “game” of this particular string of karma so that we can get to know this situation inside
out—both from the attitude of the perp to the crushing of the victim. We need to “grok”
(get) it in every detail. It’s as though we store all of those dark experiences and awareness as
lumps of coal in a closed shadowy room. It hurts, we feel stuck and imprisoned.
Now, here’s the real key! When we actually
heal those old crumminesses, when we forgive, when we give up and let go of all those energetic tangles that bind us like
poisonous, electric jelly fish tentacles—that changes all those very dark and confusing polarities! The
“windows” of that dark storeroom fling open to the sunlight, we are cleared and freed, we can see forever!
And the polarity of those dark experiences changes to Light so that now each of those horrid pieces of coal become
as crystals and gems that can actually transmit powerful energy and awareness from Soul rather than block it.
When that happens, we retain all the knowledge
that we gained about that situation from every viewpoint. We understand it inside out. Those
transformed difficulties or lumps of coal become gems of wisdom and ability to serve and to heal in that specific arena that
we have healed from. It is a most magnificent transformation!
So, if your Soul is looking to establish really big Light and healing ability
in you, then It sets you out on a really BIG path of perp and victim so that you can transform and heal into that huge Light
in that area! Once you have healed, there is no more animosity, no more blaming, no more “Why me?”
You get what an extraordinary gift You have given
yourself! And you are grateful for it with every fiber of your being!
Observe that process in yourself a while, talk to your own Soul and
see what you get. Karma is a magnificent process, so we might as well get on with it in the quickest way
possible, don’t you think?
Of
course, our fabulous tools for healing are sadhana (daily spiritual practice), all of our yogic and dharmic practices, as
well as energy work, listening directly to our own Soul, and conscious re-training of our mind to recognize what is REALLY
happening! This is this grand healing process that step by step brings us to our own real Union with our
God Self!
So, become your own Karma
Detective and see what you find. It could be mind-blowing as well as gratitude-producing! At
least you will love the results, even though the process may appear daunting! Guaranteed!
